I am Alexander Schulz, 26 years old, german, and currently living in Cologne. I have created this blog to show the world my attempt at the "Negreanu Challenge", a term coming from the world of professional poker. It is named after the professional poker player Dan Negreanu who, after having won almost everything that there is to win in the poker world, challenged himself to turn $10 into $100.000. That requires to start at very low-stake tables, never making a mistake, and to have a lot of patience. I should also mention that I will, at least at this stage, reduce myself to NL Texas Hold'em poker.
I am no full-time poker player, even though that idea crossed my mind (that idea crosses many minds I guess...). I do have some poker practice but never really made a big effort. However, I do have a little time on my hands at the moment, about 4-5 months, and I hope that this will be enough to conclude this challenge. I might be revealing a bit more about me in the future, but for the moment, this blog will focus on my progress, giving a few screenshots and some commentary about the game, the universe and everything.
About my strategy, I will be playing on PokerStars, first sitting at $0,05/$0,10 NL Texas Hold'em tables, trying to work my way up to $50. To diversify the risk, I will never take more than $10 to a table, and once I reach $20, I will start playing on a 2nd table. I have tried to play on more tables before, it didn't really work for me (not yet?). Instead of a 2nd table, I might join a tourney every once in a while, but at this first early stage I will only join freerolls. I have a few so-called "Frequent player points" at my disposal, meaning I can use them to enter a few tourneys that would be restricted for total beginners. I have played quite a bit in the past week, experimenting with tourneys and tables and everything, it was the most poker-intensive time of my life actually.... Anyway, I hope you enjoy this - and I hope I enjoy it, too!
